
Invest In Our Land: A Farming Campaign
104 Commercial Spots, upwards of 10 formats each, makes for an extremely difficult post production pipeline to manage. Top that off with an editorial & finishing team that is spread across New York, to the Midwest, to Los Angeles, and you’ve got a tough project to balance.
Through diligent workflow management and strong creative leadership, cuttingboard was able to cut, finish, and deliver over 400 individual commercial spots for Local Voice’s ‘Invest In Our Land’ campaign over the course of a year.
Creatively, our Head of Editorial Mitch Martin worked closely with Director Lee Hirsch to drill into what made these spots tick. A team of 3 to 4 editors and one assistant editor then worked in parallel, mimicking the approved editorial styles that Lee and Mitch came to lock in on, in order to generate the large number of spots required by the campaign. To ensure consistency on all cuts, Mitch then scrubbed through each edit, making adjustments where needed to bring them inline with the Master Spots.
On the technical front, cuttingboard had to solve the major problem of needing an immediately accessible shared project that would seamlessly span from talent in New York to LA. To do this, Head of Finishing Jake Keller, implemented Lucid Link, a cloud storage solution, and deployed Premiere Productions on top of it. Cuttingboard kept the entire offline edit on Lucid Link and all editors worked in parallel inside of Premiere Productions. For our color, sound, and VFX needs, we plugged those vendors in directly to our Lucid Link partition, allowing for a truly seamless integration with all team members involved.
Additional technical support came in the form of hosting the High-Res RAW media on cuttingboard’s NAS, where our assistant editors utilized jump desktop to access this media and trim it onto Lucid Link for our Colorists to then work with. Working this way, we were able to save our client a substantial amount of money in Cloud Storage fees.
As commercials began to lock, we had to remain diligently organized as we were often delivering 8-10 spots per ad. From generating captions for every spot, to exporting vertical videos or commercials for Broadcast TV, we did it all.
